Praise In The Morning

“When you hear the birds singing in the morning they are singing praises to their creator. They are singing praises to God!”.

I don’t remember who told me this when I was young, but it sunk deep within. I think of this every time I hear their sweet tune greeting the morning. I especially thought of it today. Despite everything. They were still singing.  Continue Reading

12 Picture Books That Encourage Cultural Awareness

In my early years I remember knowing my dad was from Mexico but that was about it. We had never known the language or anything of our heritage. When I was 10 years old my family packed up and moved to Mexico for two plus years. At the time, it was hard being away from family and all we ever had known, but now, I can look back and see what a beautiful experience it was and how fortunate we were to be immersed in a different culture.

To experience the beauty of the culture and the language. To discover my heritage.

I Saw Her Today

When we take the time to see the magic in the ordinary moments, we are given the gift of truly seeing our children for who they are.

We were on our way home from a big Christmas celebration. You know the kind. Cold, windy, and long lines but the kids love it, with trolley rides, horse drawn carriages, lighted parade, and fireworks. I mean come on, who wouldn’t love that?!

After a few stops and a quick supper, we decided it was getting late. We dropped into Target for a bathroom break and a few items. I could be in and out in 10 minutes. Did I mention I was heading in there with my 5-year-old? Continue Reading

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Image may contain: textWe LOVE Dr. Seuss in our house! We love the rhymes, the silliness, and the oddness of it all.  We started collecting books when we first learned I was expecting with our Honey-girl. Now, at age 6 she shares my love for the tongue twisting fun that each story brings. Along with all the words that make a perfect amount of no sense at all.
Today, on March 2nd, the country celebrates the delightful stories Dr. Seuss has left us. What other way can you celebrate this great author than to read! And another great reason to bring you one of our favorite things… DR. SEUSS BOOKS!

Which is why today has been dubbed National Read Across America Day.

So I asked Honey Girl what her favorite Dr. Seuss book was and this is what she had to say…

Family Time

I so longed for a way to ease into our day. My kids are up and ready to go the moment their eyes open. Me not so much. I was struggling to find a way to fit extra things into our day.  Enter “Family Time”. It sounded wonderful and I loved how it can be done at any time of day, with any age of kids, and with the whole family. While I like the idea of Family Time, (Family time, morning time, circle time, you’ve probably heard it called by many different names) I really didn’t know how I was going to incorporate it into our day with a toddler. Or at all really. Despite my apprehensions we gave it a go and its been WONDERFUL! Whether you’re a  home-school, private school, or public school family this is something you’ve got to try! Count It All Joy

It’s amazing how time flies. I started my first blog 4 years ago. Throughout the years God has been faithful and brought our family through so much while drawing us closer to him.  After one really hard season, I noticed that this verse always comes back to me. Always has a way of “showing up” in my life.  So when I decided to share my thoughts and ramblings with you, I couldn’t think of any other name for my corner of the internet world… Counting Joys. Here’s why. Continue Reading
